About Circle K International
Circle K International is the world's largest collegiate organization dedicated to service and leadership development. Circle K is a co-ed organization through which students can find a means of responsible student activity in our community. Our student leaders to gain important skills, valuable experiences, and personal initiative.
Circle K is a member of the Kiwanis Family and students have the opportunity to make important networking contacts that will give them a head start on the job market once they've graduated from college. Circle K activities are designed to be educational, interesting, and allow for practical experience in the area of leadership development. College is more than scholarship, it's good times, getting to know others, finding out who you are... trying to make a meaningful contribution in the world that awaits us. CKI allows students to make long lasting friendships, accomplish goals, and to simply have a good time! #choosecki |
Who We Are
|
Our two great states have a heritage of being strong and independent! Oklahoma is proud of her strong Native American heritage; known for courage, strength and independence. Texas has and probably always will consider herself to be the only republic in the Union. True to the independent characteristics of our states, the Texas Oklahoma District has led Circle K International in many ways.
For example, by the time Circle K met for its first annual International Convention as the newest member of the Kiwanis Family in 1956, the Texas Oklahoma District was already formed and two years old. We were the very first district to be officially recognized in 1957. As the Maverick District, we were the first and sometimes the only district to consider our member units as "chapters" and not clubs. This is because we realize that we are part of something greater, not just an interest group or local "club" of collegians. Texas Oklahoma was the first district to officially adopt the use of our initials (CKI) as a more updated name for the organization. The current CKI logo is a revised version of the logo our district developed. In additional to all this, as independent thinkers, we were the first to develop recognition programs, membership recruiting techniques, membership requirements, promotional materials, and many other programs that have been emulated by Circle K International. |
History of Our Chapter |
The University of North Texas Circle K International is in the process of re-chartering after the charter elapsed in 2020 as a result of COVID 19. Aidan Layman, President of UNT CKI, worked through the process with UNT Student Activities & the Denton Noon Kiwanis Club to re-instate UNT CKI in 2023-24. Dr. Jackie deMontmollin, Denton Noon Kiwanis Club board member is working through the process to reinstate the charter with Kiwanis International. Originally, UNT CKI was chartered on November 8, 1991. Only five short years after our chartering, member Scott Kimball became the Texas-Oklahoma Governor from 1996-1997. The Outstanding Treasurer Award for the Texas-Oklahoma District was named after UNT member and past-governor Scott Kimball. David Ragan, another UNT CKI member, became the Texas-Oklahoma governor serving from 2002-2003. The last UNT CKI member who was elected district governor was Heather Brittle who served from 2007-2008. Not only did three past district governors come from UNT, but we have had over five Lieutenant Governors, one District Treasurer, one District Editor, two District Secretaries, and over a dozen committee chairs! Sarah Kircher, a UNT Circle K member Alumna, served the K-family with the Denton Breakfast Kiwanis Club and as the previous chapter's Kiwanis Advisor. Today Dr. Jackie deMontmollin from the Denton Noon Kiwanis Club serves as the Kiwanis sponsor, and Dr. Ben Graf of the UNT College of Music serves as the Faculty Advisor. |
